'Brevity is the soul of wit.'
— Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Act 2, Scene 2
Dear Reader,
Welcome to LARISSA HAHN FICTION, a free collection of micro and short fiction exploring the suspenseful moments hidden in life's everyday monotony.
The beauty of short stories lies in their ability to capture these fleeting yet profound glimpses of emotion that reveal our shared humanity. It's like a handcrafted chocolate truffle: devoured in moments, but its richness lingers.
Here's how my stories are organised by word count:
In addition, I'll post monthly updates on the process of editing and publishing Pentimenti.
I'm an economist-turned-author, German-born and London-based. I recently experienced the pleasure — and pain — of finishing my debut novel, Pentimenti: What We Paint Over.
Writing a novel is often compared to a marathon, but for me, the process felt more like a jolty journey: climbing mountains, plodding through boggy marshes, and finally reaching the sea — only to find there was no boat to cross it. It was hard, but meaningful.
After that demanding voyage, I now find myself returning to the precise art of short fiction, where every word must earn its place.
I'd love to hear from you! Whether it's a quick reaction ("this reminded me of...") or a deeper reflection on how a story resonated with you, your thoughts will help make this a true conversation about storytelling.
You can also find me under Authentically Yours on Substack.
Best,
Larissa
