What we paint over
Imagine Van Gogh trapped in a cubicle, his paintbrush replaced by a spreadsheet.
This is the reality for family man Philian Kasik in the idyllic suburbs of Heidelberg. His life is a masterpiece of normalcy, with one exception: every morning, he drafts resignation letters he never submits—his sole act of rebellion. When an unexpected promotion threatens to extinguish his last creative spark, Philian's carefully constructed facade begins to crack.
A chance encounter with a former fellow student turned successful artist ignites Philian's suppressed desires. Consumed by envy and a reckless longing for authenticity, he plunges into a spiral of alcoholism and self-destruction, setting off a chain reaction that will test every aspect of his life. As his wife Judith grapples with her own demons, and their daughter navigates the complexities of adolescence amidst her parents' turmoil, Philian's journey culminates in a shocking act of vandalism. Now, Philian must choose: reclaim his artistic self or cling to the life he's built, all while trying to keep his family from falling apart.
Pentimenti - What we paint over, offers an intimate portrayal of a family in crisis against the corporate backdrop of contemporary Germany.
